Sculptris test drive

Posted in 3D on June 10th, 2010 by peeba

Sculptris is a free 3D sculpting program developed by an insane Swedish programmer. Even though obviously it isn’t quite as laden with features like Mudbox or ZBrush are, it’s already a pretty sweet tool. And most importantly, it fulfills the first rule of sculpting software: it’s loads of fun!

Here’s a severed male head floating in space that I modeled… But hey, at least it’s not bald this time!

Back from Assembly 2009 and other things

Assembly, the biggest demoscene event in Finland, was held again during the last few days and I had a few entries there again. My graphics entry that I scribbled on my vacation a bit over a month ago placed sixth and my fast graphics piece placed second. I’m pretty happy with the outcome but what I’m more happy with is how this time around I felt like the people who voted were not completely stupid :). That means, no joke entries or technically inadequate (read: ugly) pieces got voted high and all the entries in these categories got pretty much what they deserved in my opinion. Here’s my entries:

I’ll leave it as an excercise for the reader to figure out which picture is which. Oh, and the theme in fast graphics was “over the edge” and time limit was 1h 30min. Talking of fast graphics, here’s another fast graphics thingy (3dsmax + photoshop) I did just for fun a while ago:

I’ve also been playing around with Processing quite a bit lately but in a more educated manner than previously with the help of an excellent book. If you’re a programming noob such as me, I can heartily recommend it. Anyways, maybe I’ll have something cool to show you soonish.

Mudbox head doodle

I had a novel idea: how about doing a 3d head floating in empty space hastily in mudbox, and here’s the twist: it’s gonna be a serious looking, wrinkly, bald male head!! :|

Unreleased, unfinished and un-good

I was browsing through my archives of old projects and saw that there’s quite a bit of stuff that hasn’t seen the light of the day and I thought that it might be nice to air them out a little bit. These are all old and most of them have been left rotting on my HD for a good reason. Often because I thought that they didn’t turn out that well or I never actually finished them but also because I simply haven’t bothered displaying some of these in the internet “publicly” before. Nevertheless, it’s refreshing to show some old and stupid stuff for a change.

Carnivorous Plant

I had a fast graphics challenge with a friend of mine last weekend with the theme “carnivorous plant”. This is what I came up after about one hour of modeling and rendering in 3ds max and one hour of compositing and touching up in Photoshop.
